Your approach to a recruitment consultant
is equally important to the attention the consultant pays to
your needs. We at MCA ask for a few small favours from all
our candidates which will in turn ensure that we work as effectively,
efficiently and fairly for everyone, always in the best interests
of you, the job seeker. These are:
Honesty
Be honest at all times, if you are ever unsure about
something, whether it be the location, the firm, or the position
is question, please tell us as we are always the best person
to be able to help resolve the situation.
We ask that you to
tell us who you’re CV has gone to
in the last 6 months so we can ensure that we don’t ask
you about options you have already covered.
We also ask that
on the occasions that we have ‘sole
agent’ with a firm that you keep the position confidential.
This protects the client from unwanted exposure to other
agents, helps maintain our business relationships, and just
as importantly, ensures you have less competition.
Keep it to a minimum
Although it can seem like a good idea
to register with many agencies, believing that this will
give you access to all of the opportunities available, MCA
strongly recommend that candidates limit their job search to
two, if not only one agent. This helps you keep control of
your job search, avoids duplication, and gives you an unbiased
opinion when choosing the right firm for you. MCA have established
relationships with both large national law firms who use
many agencies, but also work with many smaller private practices
who are choosier when it comes to dealing with agencies,
and have chosen MCA because of their high standard of service.
This guarantees that you get exposure to a wide selection
of positions available.
All consultants at MCA are highly professional, and whether
you hold offers solely through MCA, or additional offers through
another agent, MCA will always provide honest, unbiased advice
in the interests of your career.
Listen
We at MCA understand that your career is of paramount
importance, and that securing that ‘dream job’ is
top priority. However, as market conditions constantly change,
we ask that you listen to your consultant who will give you
an honest and realistic view of what you can expect, whether
it be the number of opportunities available, salaries, or if
you are looking to change disciplines. It is because we understand
the consequences of making bad career moves that we don’t
want you to be disappointed unnecessarily.
Don’t be bullied
Candidates must understand that although
the vast majority of recruitment agents operate ethically and
fairly, there are the occasions where you could receive biased
opinions and motivations that could potentially push you towards
a role which is not suitable. Always stand your ground and
be resilient. A candidate should never be made to feel in the
wrong, pressurised unnecessarily or forced to make a decision
they are unsure about.
Let us know
If your situation changes in any way, please let
your consultant know as soon as possible, whatever it is. If
you have been successful in finding a new position, great!
We will always be very happy for you. But if you decide to
broaden your search, inform us so we can ensure we continue
to provide an excellent service and not waste your or the client’s
time.
